Ok, so this is my first official BIG tutorial, so I am crossing my fingers I did ok :)
You will need
4 pieces of 8.5x11" crumb cake
2 pieces of 12x12' crumb cake
1 window sheet
2 pieces First Edition Designer Series Paper
8 pieces of Orchard Harvest Paper cut to 5"x5" (save scrap piece)
Markers and or Ink Pads in these colors:
Raspberry Rippl, Cajun Craze, More Mustard, Lucky Limeade, Island Indigo and Early Espresso. (Aren't they yummy!?!?!?)
Step 1 - Prepare the bottom of the box
Box Bottom:
Cut a piece of 12x12 Crumb Cake to 8 3/4" x 10". Score 1" in on all four sides. On two sides, cut in 1" on the score lines like shown, using the crossing score lines as a guide.
Fold up corners and glue to create the box base. I used Tombow Multi glue, but sticky strip also works well.
2. Create the inserts for the box. (You might want to letter these lightly on the back where they won't show so that you can put them into the box in order....
From
the first piece of 8.5x11 Crumb Cake you will cut two pieces, one that
is 6 5/8 x 11 (A), and one that is 1 3/8 x 10 5/8 (C). Score A at 3
1/2, 4 1/2, 5 1/2, and 8 1/2, 9 1/2, and 10 1/2 inches. Score C at 4
1/4, 5 1/4, 6 1/4, then 7 1/2, 8 1/2, and 9 1/2 inches.
From
the second piece you will cut three more inserts: the first one is 1
3/8 x 10 5/8 (G), 1 3/8 x 8 5/8 (F), and 3 3/8 x 8 5/8 (B). Score G at 1
1/4, 2 1/4, 3 1/4 then 4 1/2, 5 1/2, 6 1/2, then again at 7 3/4, 8 3/4,
9 3/4. Score F at 1 3/4, 2 3/4, 3 3/4 and 6,7, and 8 inches. Score B at
3 1/2, 4 1/2, 5 1/2.
From the third piece, you will cut 3 more inserts: the first one is 4 5/8x 4 7/8 (E), 2 7/8, 4 1/2 (D), and 1 3/8 x 3 3/8 (H). Score E at 1 1/2, 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 inches, Score D at 2,3, and 4 inches and H at 3/4, 1 3/4, and 2 3/4 inches.
Now create your inserts: You will fold all of them like this, and glue the folded portion together to create the uprights.
If there are multiple scores, it will look something like this:
After you get them all glued together:
3. Glue the inserts in the box (this is why it will help if you labeled them)
First Glue in insert A into the box bottom all the way to the left side of the box (there is a space on the right that will be covered by onther insert)
then glue in B in the far left section
Next glue in D. Glue this in the bottom of the middle section.
Next glue inp piece e in the middle section:
Then you can glue in C, F and G and H
(H isn't in the picture below, but it goes in the top right corner splitting that one in half vertically (you can leave it out it you don't want to put a little spool of linen thread)
YAY! Box Bottom is done!!!
3. Time to make all the insides!
CARDS
Cut 8 3x3 cards from one sheet of 12x12 cardstock. I used the Simply Scored to add a little detail to the cards around the edges, but it's optional.
ENVELOPES
To make the envelopes, you will use the Diagonal Plate on your Simply Scored tool. Place the 5x5 square in the upper left corner, and score on all four sides at 2 1/4" You will get a little triangle on each side. Cut these out. Fold your envelope in on two sides, then up on one side. Run a SMALL amount of Tombow glue on the edge to create your envelope.
EMBELISHMENTS
I cut my First Edition paper into 2 inch strips. This gave me PLENTY of space to make lots of embellishments. The easiest way I found to lay them out was:
The colors I used were: Raspberry Ripple, Cajun Craze, More Mustard, Lucky Limeade, Midnight Muse, and Early Espresso. You will want to use your markers on some to give them more detail.
I
made 8 like the one on the left. It's very hard to see, but the "Just
for You" banner is at the top. That can be cut out with the Bitty
Banners Framelits or by hand. You will have to cut out the cherries and
flower puffs, but just leave a little space so it looks like they were
cut with the dies. Punch out the "Thank you" with the Small Oval
Punch. The reason I stamped them like this was so that I could run them
through the Big Shot with the Cannery Edgelits like this:
That makes it a LOT easier! Trust me!!!!!
I added dimensionals to the backs of the lids, the Thank You ovals and the just for you banners like this:
Place them into the box like: (I also decided I wanted to have some plain Very Vanilla jars as well, so I made a few of those too)
I
placed the little leaves in the bottom of a 1x8 cello bag that I cut
down and tied with some Linen Thread. I took a small scrap of Orchard
Harvest DSP and wrapped a yard or so of Linen Thread around it to be
used as an embellishment.
To make the Glue stick, you will need a piece of DSP that is 2 1/2 x 4 1/2. Take off the original wrapper. I used a couple of pieces to give it a little border, but that is totally an option. I used Sticky Strip to make sure that it stuck on the Glue Stick well. I wrapped a piece of Lucky Limeade Ribbon around it to dress it up a bit, but it would also be a cute place to put your Linen Thread.
3. Next you will need to make your box cover. The bottom of the box is a piece of Crumb Cake cut to 6 3/4x8" . Cut a Window Sheet to 8"x11" . Score at 1",2", 9"and 10"
I used 2 pieces of Sticky Strip the entire length of the cover (as shown above) to attach the window sheet to the bottom piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock. I found it easiest to lay the Window Sheet flat down on my table so the folded edges are up, lay the box in the center, remove the sticky strip liner from one side, line up the edge of the bottom piece of Crumb Cake and adhere it. THEN, while it is still like that, remove the Sticky Strip liner from the other side and place the Crumb Cake down to adhere. This will make sure that your sliding cover is not too tight!
But it's going to look something like this.... it's SO HARD to get a good photo of window sheets!
Place all your cute little pieces into the box, slide on the cover and VOILA!
